A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2 Filming Halted Following Historic Floods in Spain
Fans of Westeros are facing an unexpected and dramatic delay. Following the massive success of the first season earlier this year, HBO wasted no time fast-tracking the second season of its highly acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, Mother Nature had other plans.
According to breaking reports this week, production for Season 2 has been completely shut down due to severe, historic flooding at the show's primary filming locations in Spain. Here is everything we know about the situation, the safety of the cast, and what this means for the Season 2 release date.
Historic Floods Strike the Westeros Set
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms relies heavily on the breathtaking, rugged landscapes of Gran Canaria, Spain, to bring the grounded adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire Egg to life.
Unfortunately, the region was recently hit by unprecedented rainfall and severe flooding. While HBO has confirmed that all cast and crew members—including leads Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell—are entirely safe and accounted for, several key outdoor sets and base camps have reportedly suffered significant water damage. As a result, production has been indefinitely paused while local authorities and the studio assess the safety of the filming locations.
Will This Delay the Season 2 Release Date?
Season 1 of the "Dunk and Egg" saga was a massive hit when it premiered in January 2026, offering a much-needed, lighter, and more adventurous tone compared to the heavy political doom of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.
Because HBO greenlit Season 2 so quickly, fans were expecting the next chapter of the journey to arrive by early 2027. While it is too early to tell exactly how long the production delay will last, major set rebuilds could push the Season 2 premiere back to late 2027. HBO has yet to announce a revised production schedule.
What to Expect in Season 2
When the cameras eventually start rolling again, Season 2 is expected to adapt George R.R. Martin’s second novella in the series, The Sworn Sword.
Taking place a year after the events of the first season, Dunk and Egg find themselves in the service of an aging knight in the Reach, plunging them into a fierce local dispute over land and water rights—a storyline that feels ironically fitting given the current real-world flooding halting the production!
